Clarity is Necessary for Ambiguous Notions of Possibility

After reading a tweet by Pete Wolfendale today regarding the efficiency of society and modal reasoning, I started wondering myself: Is it possible that many of the issues plaguing many of our disciplines could be resolved with a careful analysis of modal vocabulary?  I’ve never been of the sort to believe that just one thing can function as a panacea, curing us of all of our ills and promising us access to the heavenly land of milk and honey, and the same is still true regarding this topic, but I can’t help but wonder how many confusions could be avoided if we better understood the nature of possibility itself.
